Ffion Hague will present the story of the two wives of David Lloyd George in a programme on S4C on 20 September

Ffion Hague presents a one hour documentary on the relationship between Lloyd George and his wives - Margaret Owen and Frances Stevenson, charting the women's extraordinary influence on the great man's life and career. The programme is made for Welsh language channel S4C and is available with subtitles in English (page 888). In the programme Ffion, author of "The Pain and the Privilege:The Women in Lloyd George's Life", embarks on a journey from the remote beauty of Bardsey Island - one of Lloyd George's first meetings with his future wife, Margaret - through to the bustling London political social scene where he encountered his mistress, Frances.

Although Margaret and Frances came from contrasting backgrounds and had very different personalities, Ffion maintains that Lloyd George needed both women in his life and he leaned heavily on their support.The programme takes us to the heart of no 10 Downing Street as Sarah Brown guides Ffion around the rooms used by Margaret as wife of the PM. Filming also took place in Churt,Surrey, where Lloyd George and Frances lived, and where Ffion is granted an exclusive TV interview with Jennifer Longford, Frances Stevenson's daughter - now one of the Society's Vice Presidents.

The programme is made by Llanelli-based company Tinopolis. The producer is Catrin Evans and the programme is directed by Nia Dryhurst.
