2009 Weekend School dates and some speakers confirmed

5.19.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 22nd Oct 2008

The next weekend school will be held at the Commodore Hotel, Llandrindod Wells between 20th and 22nd February 2009.

Commodore Hotel

The Hotel Commodore at Llandrindod Wells will host the next weekend school, 20-22 February 2009

The hotel has increased its charge by £7 to £122 for the full weekend, which the Society hopes you will find acceptable.

Mike German

Mike German AM will be one of the speakers at the 2009 weekend school

Chris Huhne MP has intimated he would like to speak at the Saturday night dinner but he has not yet been able to confirm because he expects to have a heavy programme next spring. Richard Reeves of Demos has accepted our invitation to speak about John Stuart Mill (winner of the Greatest Liberal contest) and Mike German, retiring leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, will talk on the subject of alternative energy. Jonathan Fryer, who is no. 2 on the London Euro list for the elections in 2009, will talk about Europe and its relationship with the United States. See Jonathan's website at http://www.jonathanfryer4europe.com/

We hope that Lord Morgan will grace the occasion again with a contribution about Lloyd George.

We are hopeful of attracting an economist as a speaker to comment on these difficult times and some other interesting speakers. The full programme should hopefully be available before Christmas and as soon as additions to the programme are known we will advertise them on the website.

Booking forms are going out by post now to all members and we look forward to seeing you at the school. If you are not a member and would like to attend, please contact our Chairman, Bill Barritt on 01746 765142 or by email at wmbarritt@btinternet.com
