Actor Jonathan Owen is making a series of four programmes for ITV1 Wales, based on the years 1958, 1948, 1928 and 1918 - to mark fifty years of independent television broadcasting in Wales.

The series will start with a look at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff. 1948 will examine the birth of the National Health Service and the role of Aneurin Bevan. 1928 was the year Amelia Earhart crash landed near Llanelli and became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. 1918 was the ending of the First World War and Lloyd George's role as Minister of Munitions, Prime Minister and peace negotiator will be at the heart of the programme.

Owen says that a series such as this, focusing on Welsh achievements and personalities is a way to bring history to life and carries on the Welsh oral tradition.

The first programme about the Commonwealth Games will be shown on ITV1 Wales on Wednesday 16 July at 10.30pm. You can read more about the programmes and the full interview with Jonathan Owen, and his views on the Great War (which he studies at University) and L.G at the WalesOnline website at:
